These are the three main reasons why the Hvíždinec rock lookout is worth a little effort and a little breathing room.One of the hiking trails will take you either from Dobřichovice or from Řitka. In both cases, be prepared for a steeper climb under the crowns of majestic beech, birch and pine trees at the edge of the forest. Once you reach the ridge, the worst is over. From now on, it’s pretty much straight ahead!
The first rock outcropping with carved steps, created by the Czech Tourist Club at the end of the 19th century, rises on a rocky promontory. By the way, the fact that the very first expedition of this club headed here in 1892 will convince you of the extraordinary nature of the rocks. Compared to the tourists of that time, the view here is not much to enjoy, as it is obstructed by a wooded belt.
But on the second rock climb, fans of views and panoramic snapshots of the countryside will definitely find something to enjoy. At an altitude of 476 metres, the Hvíždinec rock lookout towers, separating the coniferous forest from the mixed forest. The view of the shimmering Berounka River and nearby Řevnice is as close as your palm. If you are lucky, you can even catch a glimpse of the highest tower of Karlštejn Castle. Let’s see who can see it first.
You didn’t see any tower? Don’t hang your head. Just take a moment to listen and you might even hear the whistling of birds of prey flying around among the wind in the treetops. It is from these sounds that the lookout got its name. The white rocks are made of the so-called Drabov quartzite. This extremely hard rock was formerly used for Prague paving stones, the so-called cat’s heads.
If you descend a little lower from the viewpoint, you will find yourself in a magical landscape of a sea of rubble. Hundreds of moss-covered stones are strewn all over the hillside, creating the atmosphere of a forgotten region miles away from the bustle of civilisation.
The fastest way to reach the viewpoint is via Černolice. The whole journey will take you less than two hours.
9,7 km (15 min.) towards Dobrichovice where you can park. From there, follow the blue hiking trail directly to the viewpoint.
Take bus number 317 to Řitka and from the bus stop walk for about an hour along the blue hiking trail to the viewpoint.
