On this popular recreational trail, you can take a great ride on a bike, scooter, or inline skates. The path starts in the centre of Prague near Mánes and ends in Vrané nad Vltavou.
The Modřanská cycle path is connected to the Vltavská path. It starts in the very centre of Prague, near Mánes. Prepare for a variety of surfaces – from crumbling pavement to new smooth asphalt.
The path will take us along the Podolské nábřeží embankment past Výtoň to the Barrandov Bridge. From the Bridge of Intelligence, it continues past the Hodkovičky golf course along Vltavanů Street to the Modřany and Komořany train stations. It is between Vltavanů Street and Modřany Street that the surface of the trail will be most troublesome. There’s an old road with many potholes.
As a reward, however, you can enjoy one of the most picturesque parts of the entire route after you have overcome the critical part. The beautiful Modřany lagoons flow into the varied cottages and landscaped beds of the local garden colony.
By the way, do you know where these pools in Modřany came from? They were built artificially in the 19th century as flood protection. Later, however, weir cascades were built against the high water, and the lagoons lost their original significance. Gradual overgrowth has created a unique floodplain ecosystem in which many endangered species have inhabited this area. Here you can admire colourful kingfishers and grebes.
Near the Radotín Bridge, the barking from the canine training ground is heard, and along the railway line, the trail is heading to Zbraslav. From there, cyclists can continue on to Vraný nad Vltavou.
Especially on weekends, the path is really busy, with pedestrians, cyclists, scooter-riders, and skaters sharing it together. If you want to enjoy the trip without people, go during the work days.
The Modřanská cycle path is from Jíloviště on the opposite side of the Vltava River. You can cross to the other bank using the Zbraslav Bridge, 7.5 km away from the Restovna. You can be there in 30 minutes by bike.
