Originally, however, it was a much smaller castle from 1355. The Vratislav family of Mitrovice ruled here for 200 years, but after the Swedish invasion, the whole castle fell into disrepair. In this deplorable state, it was bought by the wealthy adventurer Servác Engel. The austere and cold fortress was gradually transformed under his hand into a noble aristocratic residence.
Theodorich Kast, who had the entire building renovated at the beginning of the 20th century, was one of the castle’s last landlords. The nobility lived here until the First Republic, and it is the aristocratic atmosphere of this era has forever been imprinted on the present-day appearance of the chateau.
Forget about uninteresting tours. You will definitely not be bored in Mníšek. In addition to the two classic tours, you can spice up your visit. How about going on a chillingly mysterious night tour?
You will see that even the children will be excited. No one will reprimand them for touching things on the experience tour for the little ones; quite the opposite! They can try out the fabrics used for curtains and upholstery or ring the bell for the maid. Right next to the castle is a well-kept park perfect for a picnic.
From Restovna you can get to Mníšek in ten minutes by car; just take the direction to Dobříš.
You can also use bus line 317, which will take you directly to the square.
Fans of pedal and electric bicycles will be pleased with the well-maintained cycle path. It leads to Mníšek via Černolice, and this 14-kilometre ride around the forest can be done in about an hour.
